“BLACK” RONNIE JONES – Ron Jones was the dominant pitcher in Cincinnati in the 1970s. He was runner-up “Player of the Year” in 1978, was a 1st team All-Decade pick in 1980, and was named to the All-Century team in 2000. He won numerous MVP and HR titles . In 1981 he was named to the UPSL All-Pro team, and in 1988 was selected MVP in the USSSA 40-Over Masters World. Jones also pitched for the WLW-Coors Light Celebrity All-Star team that toured the area playing exhibition games to for charity. Members of the team included former MLB and NFL players and local radio and TV personalities. To distinguish Ron from another legendary player of the 70s by the same
name, they nicknamed the two players “Black” Ron Jones and “Red” Ron Jones due to their hair color.
