Senior Player
Earl Weatherford – Before participating in the Senior program, Earl Weatherford enjoyed a lengthy career playing with a multitude of men’s teams in league and tournament play throughout Greater Cincinnati, including several class A and B teams. These included Playhouse Café, Log Cabin, Taylor Brothers, Rockcastle Oldsmobile, Express Transport, Knights/Quality Manufacturing, Clermont County Sports, Hugh’s Oyster House, Pomp’s, Schiffer Metals, ETP 13 Sports, Nunn’s Drywall, Trimex, Menninger Auto Body, and Sci-Fit. A few exploits included earning All-Tournament honors with Rockcastle Oldsmobile in 1977 in the Mid-American Tournament in Louisville and with Express Transport in 1982 at Riverstar Park, and going 29-for-31 (.935) with 27 consecutive hits en route to All-Tournament honors at Riverstar with Clermont County Sports in 1986. Earl’s first foray into the Senior program came with Stafford Sales in 2003, when he was named tournament MVP in the NSA World Series in Gadsden, Al. Two years later in 2005, he earned MVP honors in the Winter World with Indy Fog in Las Vegas, and the following year he was named to the All-State team with Northern Kentucky Thunder in Cincinnati. In 2007 with ETP 13 Sports, Earl was selected MVP at the Indy Classic in Elgin, Illinois, then in 2010 with the Dayton Legends he was picked MVP in the ISA World Series in Gallatin, Tennessee. At Gallatin, he hit back-to-back grand slam home runs, including a walk-off, in the same inning. Incredibly he hit one left-handed and one right-handed. Also in 2010, he earned All-Tournament team in the Heart of Ohio tournament in Columbus. During an extensive 46-year career that came to an end in 2014, Earl played in a mind-boggling 14,020 games. A line-drive hitter with power to all fields, he posted a hefty .825 career batting average and clubbed 700 home runs. His primary position was 2nd base. In addition to back-to-back home runs in Gallatin – the second being a walk-off, Earl’s other greatest softball thrill came while competing in a USSSA World Tournament in Detroit when he single-handedly turned a triple play. With Earl playing 2nd base and opposing runners on first and second, he snared a line drive up the middle and stepped on 2nd to double off the runner, then threw behind the runner at 1st to complete the triple play. Earl was inducted into the Alter Athletic
