ED EGGLESTON – In 1982, Ed Eggleston purchased a 25-acre plot and opened up two ballfields on the banks of the Great Miami River on Blue Rock Road. Ed expanded the park to four diamonds in 1986, then opened a two-story concession and bar in 1995. In 1996 and ’97, he invested $160,000 to light the park’s four fields. That enabled Ed to double his league capacity. Park amenities included a family atmosphere, clubhouse, in-house umpires and children’s playground. A 4th of July tournament with fireworks was the park’s centerpiece event. Eventually in 2000, Ed sold the park for “an offer he couldn’t refuse.” But his 18-year legacy of providing quality recreational opportunities for countless athletes and families continues now as Mid-America Ballyard.
